Middle Fork Feather River - April 2009

Adam Franklin Falls This is the run that Holbeck and Stanley call the “Best Multi-day Wilderness Run in California” and what the California Whitewater guidebook describes as "pounding ClassV - and worse - rapids in a remote, wilderness canyon...rescue would be virtually impossible in the event of a mishap". NOTE TO SELF: Avoid mishaps. Here's a few pix from three awesome days with eleven of the most competent crew we could ever hope to boat with.

The Avon Factory in Wales and How Pricing is Devised

Avon Factory, Wales Every fall Team Clavey heads across the big pond to meet with management at the Avon factory in Wales to discuss pricing for the following year. This is a two part process that begins early in the morning and can last for up to six weeks. Part One: Heavily fortified with pints of Double Dragon and running on jet lag, Scotto will arm wrestle the largest guy at the factory, thus determining Clavey’s pricing for the following year’s Avon Riverboats. This normally results in huge discounts for the entire fleet of rafts, great financing and free freight from the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, Part Two of the Avon Pricing Challenge is in the form of a Welsh spelling bee. At this part of the visit, Avon prices begin to rise sharply.
